Welcome to Ledger – Take Control of Your Crypto
If you're ready to take the first step in your crypto journey, you've come to the right place. Ledger® is a trusted name in digital asset security, offering hardware wallets that provide unmatched protection against online threats. With Ledger, your private keys remain offline and in your control at all times.
This guide will walk you through the simple steps to set up your Ledger device via the official setup process. Whether you're using the Ledger Nano S®, Nano S Plus®, or Nano X®, getting started is quick, secure, and easy.
Step 1: Unpack Your Ledger Device
Open the box and confirm that everything is intact. Inside, you should find:
- Your Ledger device (Nano S, Nano S Plus, or Nano X)
- USB cable (for connecting to your computer)
- Recovery sheet (for writing down your 24-word recovery phrase)
- Quick start guide and documentation
Ensure that the packaging is sealed and untampered. For security, Ledger devices are never shipped with pre-configured PIN codes or recovery phrases.
Step 2: Visit Ledger.com/start
Go to your browser and search for Ledger.com/start. This is the only official starting point for Ledger devices. From there, you’ll be directed to download Ledger Live®, the companion app used to manage your crypto securely.
Beware of fake websites or third-party apps. Always double-check that you are on the authentic Ledger site before downloading anything or entering any information.
Step 3: Download Ledger Live®
Ledger Live is available for desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and mobile (iOS and Android). It allows you to manage your assets, check balances, install crypto apps, and more—all while your private keys stay protected in your Ledger device.
Once downloaded, install Ledger Live and launch the application. You’ll be guided step-by-step through the process.
Step 4: Set Up Your Device
Connect your Ledger wallet to your computer or mobile device using the provided cable or Bluetooth (Nano X only). Then, follow the instructions on both Ledger Live and your device screen.
You'll be asked to:
- Choose a secure PIN code (minimum 4 digits)
- Write down your 24-word recovery phrase and store it safely offline
- Confirm your recovery phrase to verify accuracy
Your recovery phrase is the only backup to your wallet. Never share it, and never store it digitally.
Step 5: Install Crypto Apps and Add Accounts
After setup, open Ledger Live and go to the “Manager” tab. From here, you can install apps for each cryptocurrency you want to manage—such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and many others.
Then, go to “Accounts” and add the appropriate wallet addresses to start sending and receiving crypto directly from your Ledger device.
Step 6: Transfer Your Funds
To move crypto from an exchange to your Ledger wallet:
- Open Ledger Live and select “Receive”
- Choose the correct account for the crypto asset
- Copy the address and verify it on your Ledger device screen
- Initiate the withdrawal from your exchange to the Ledger address
Always confirm the address on your hardware wallet screen to ensure it hasn't been altered by malicious software.
Security Best Practices
- Never share your recovery phrase with anyone—Ledger will never ask for it
- Store your recovery phrase offline in a fireproof or waterproof location
- Enable password lock for Ledger Live
- Keep your firmware and Ledger Live up to date
- Double-check URLs before downloading or visiting sites
You're All Set!
Once your Ledger device is set up, you can confidently store, send, and receive crypto assets knowing they’re protected by industry-leading security. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced investor, Ledger gives you full control over your financial future.
